"Rex de Voluptās"
My first fully rendered piece in almost two years! (As many of you know, I took a long hiatus from art to focus on writing my novel.)
For this one I wanted to create an illustration that could go with my book--a luxurious yet simple portrait of my main character, Alastair, meant to capture his Dionysian essence. It's also a bit of a commentary on how I'd love to see more variety in body representation for romantic male leads. Seems like they're almost always depicted with ridiculous rock hard abs, haha.
Clearly I'm biased, but come on. More bellies, please!!!
Fun fact: This was supposed to be one of many sketches to help myself get back in the groove, but I ended up loving his face so much I had to finish it. I have a hard time simply sketching and leaving things unfinished.
